Cancer in CANS!!!!

FOX NEWS ARTICLE

Swedish scientists reported this week that eating potato chips may expose you to dangerously high amounts of the supposedly cancer-causing substance acrylamide.
Not to worry, though. You'd choke on the chips before you croaked from the chemical.
Stockholm University researchers claim to have shown that baking or frying carbohydrate-rich foods, such as potatoes and cereals, formed acrylamide, a substance classified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a "probable human carcinogen."   Finish reading this article at

January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month

Today I would like to share some information to help Prevent Defects. I would also like to share my story about my Pregnancy and the defects my child has.  I was 21 years old when I got pregnant with my first child. When I was 20 weeks pregnant I found out that my mother had Lung Cancer this was in October.  I went through a long sad and painful pregnancy, My mother suffered and the chemo and radiation was not helping her at all.  The worst part was that I lived 6 hours away from here and could only go up a couple times a month to visit her.  The cancer had spread everywhere in her body, she forgot who I was.  She didn't even know who I was, this really broke my heart.  Then finally in January she passed away one week before I had my Beautiful daughter.  Because I endured all this stress during my pregnancy my child now has several defects.  I wasn't aware that stress could cause the child to have defects.  I have done a lot of research and have learned the Stress will affect your baby while you are pregnant.  My daughter, use to cry all the time when she was a baby. There was nothing I could do to soothe her. We found out that she has sever ADHD, Learning Delays, seizures, and temperament problems. She also has a Hearing delay, and still I think that there is other things that have not been diagnosed.  I did everything else right during the pregnancy, I feel so bad that I caused her to suffer due to me.

Here is the risk of stress during pregnancy that affect your baby

pre mature baby
low birth weight
Baby's brain development
attention problems
Heart problems
behavior disorders
temperament problems
immune system
being afraid
asthma
allergies
And many more.  The best thing is to try and reduce your stress for you and your baby.  I want others to be aware of how serious this is.

Kids killing your sex drive?

Sex? After Kids?

We appear like the typical married couple except we have a dirty little secret: For the past four years we've had someone in our bed with us (and no it's not as kinky as you might think).

Co-sleeping

Baby in the bed

It all started innocently enough. I made the fatal flaw of allowing my 12 month old baby boy (the last child I knew I'd carry in my womb) to fall asleep in my bed before I transferred him to his crib. Why did I not simply put him in his crib to sleep? That is a really good question, which I've asked myself each night over the past four years as I attempt to get in a few zzz's with a small foot on my head, waking up with bruises from all the kicking and then, of course, there's the obstacle to intimate relations with my husband.
But I digress.
Let me set the scene. Initially when we'd put my son in his crib, he would cry so much that we gave up. The only way we seemed able to get our son to sleep peacefully through the night was to let him fall asleep in our bed and then transfer him to his crib.

Foods and drinks to soothe sick kids

Feel Good From The Inside Out

When your child doesn't feel well, neither do you. To make things worse, the appetites and eating habits of children change when they're ill (usually for the worse), and parents may struggle to get an ailing child to eat. Although your parents may have subscribed to the "feed a cold, starve a fever" philosophy, that advice has been replaced with recommendations that a child continue to be fed throughout an illness, rather than have her foods restricted.

Hand Sanitizer and What You Need to Know!!!!

It's a chemical that's been in U.S. households for more than 40 years, from the body wash in your bathroom shower to the knives on your kitchen counter to the bedding in your baby's basinet.

But federal health regulators are just now deciding whether triclosan - the germ-killing ingredient found in an estimated 75 percent of antibacterial liquid soaps and body washes sold in the U.S. - is ineffective, or worse, harmful.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is planning to deliver a review this year of whether triclosan is safe. The ruling, which will determine whether triclosan continues to be used in household cleaners, could have implications for a $1 billion industry that includes hundreds of antibacterial products from toothpaste to toys.

The agency's review comes amid growing pressure from lawmakers, consumer advocates and others who are concerned about the safety of triclosan. Recent studies of triclosan in animals have led scientists to worry that it could increase the risk of infertility, early puberty and other hormone-related problems in humans.

"To me it looks like the risks outweigh any benefit a##ociated with these products right now," said Allison Aiello, professor at the University of Michigan's School of Public Health. "At this point, it's just looking like a superfluous chemical."

The concerns over triclosan offer a sobering glimpse at a little-known fact: Many chemicals used in everyday household products have never been formally approved by U.S. health regulators. That's because many germ-killing chemicals were developed decades ago before there were laws requiring scientific review of cleaning ingredients.

The controversy also highlights how long it can take the federal government to review the safety of such chemicals. It's not uncommon for the process to drag on for years, since regulators must review volumes of research and take comments from the public on each draft.

In the case of triclosan, Congress pa##ed a law in 1972 requiring that the FDA set guidelines for dozens of common antibacterial chemicals found in over-the-counter soaps and scrubs. The guidelines function like a cookbook for manufacturers, detailing which chemicals can be used in what products, and in what amounts.

In 1978, the FDA published its first tentative guidelines for chemicals used in liquid hand soaps and washes. The draft stated that triclosan was "not generally recognized as safe and effective," because regulators could not find enough scientific research demonstrating its safety and effectiveness.

The FDA published several drafts of the guidelines over the years, but the agency never finalized the results. So, companies have not had to remove triclosan from their products.

Meanwhile, the agency did approve triclosan for use in Colgate's Total toothpaste in 1997, after Colgate-Palmolive Co. submitted data showing that the ingredient helped f!ght gingivitis.

Then, last summer, the FDA said its review of triclosan would be complete by late 2012. That target date then slipped to February, which has also come and gone. But pressure on the agency from outside critics didn't let up.

In March, a federal appeals court said a lawsuit by the nonprofit Natural Resources Defense Council aimed at forcing the FDA to complete its review could move forward. A three-judge panel reinstated the 2010 lawsuit, which had been tossed out by a lower court, saying the nonprofit group presented evidence that triclosan could potentially be dangerous.

Now, four decades after it was charged with reviewing triclosan, the FDA is planning to complete its review. FDA spokeswoman Stephanie Yao said evaluating triclosan and other antibacterial agents is "one of the highest priorities" for the agency, but did not offer an explanation for the delay.

The FDA's website currently states that "the agency does not have evidence that triclosan in antibacterial soaps and body washes provides any benefit over washing with regular soap and water."

The American Cleaning Institute, a soap and detergent trade organization, says it has provided reams of data to FDA showing that triclosan is both safe and effective.

"Triclosan is one of the most reviewed and researched ingredients used in consumer and health care products," says Brian Sansoni, a spokesman for the group, whose members include Colgate-Palmolive and Henkel Consumer Goods Inc., maker of Dial soap.

While it can take years for the government to make rules, members of Congress say there is little precedent for the FDA's four-decade review of triclosan.

"When FDA first started evaluating the rules governing triclosan's use, Richard Nixon was still president," said Rep. Edward Markey, D-Ma##, who asked the FDA to take a closer look at triclosan in 2010 after the European Union banned the chemical from products that come into contact with food.

"Science has evolved, and so should FDA's regulations guiding the use of this chemical in consumer products," he says.

U.S. scientists agree that the FDA's review is overdue. The Endocrine Society, a group of doctors and scientists who specialize in the hormone system, flagged triclosan four years ago as an ingredient that alters levels of thyroid hormones and reproductive hormones like testosterone and estrogen.

"I think the FDA is behind the curb," said Dr. Andrea Gore of the University of Texas at Austin, who was the lead author of the Endocrine Society's statement on hormone disrupting chemicals. "At what point do you draw a line and say we need to take this out of products that are being applied to our skin? What is enough evidence?"

Some Americans are shocked that the FDA has taken so long. Mallory Smith is troubled to learn that the government has never confirmed the safety of antibacterial soap's key ingredient.

Smith, who works for the federal government, says she keeps antibacterial soap in the kitchen to clean her hands after she's handled raw meat.

"As a regular consumer I rely on the government to identify products that are safe for me to use," Smith said. "If something is brought to their attention, they should look into it, and ban the chemical if necessary."

Others are less surprised by the government's multi-decade review. "It sounds like a typical government agency to me: totally unproductive," said David Fisher, who sells restaurant equipment in Arizona.

Ironically, triclosan first became widely used because it was considered safer than an older antibacterial ingredient, hexachlorophene. That chemical was banned from household items in 1972 after FDA scientists discovered that toxic levels could be absorbed through the skin. Several infant [rip]s in France were connected to baby powder that contained unsafe levels of the chemical, due to a manufacturing error.

Triclosan was initially used in hospitals in the 1970s as a scrub for surgeons preparing to perform an operation. It was also used to coat the surfaces of catheters, stitches and other surgical instruments.

Beginning in the 1990s, triclosan began making its way into hundreds of antibacterial consumer goods, ranging from soap to socks to lunchboxes. The growth has in part been fueled by Americans who believe that antibacterial ingredients provide an added level of protection against germs.

As the use of triclosan has expanded, more scientists have questioned its effectiveness. In 2007, researchers at the University of Michigan and other universities compiled data from 30 studies looking at the use of antibacterial soaps. The results showed soaps with triclosan were no more effective at preventing illness or reducing bacteria on the hands than plain soap.

Other studies have shown that longer hand-washing improves results far more than adding antibacterial ingredients. The Centers for Disease Control recommends washing hands at least 20 seconds. The CDC also recommends using hand sanitizer - most of which use alcohol or ethanol to k#ll germs, not chemicals like triclosan - if soap and water are not available.

Troclosan's safety also has become a growing concern in recent years. To date, nearly all of the research on triclosan's health impact comes from animal studies -which are not necessarily applicable to humans - but the findings still have researchers concerned.

A 2009 study by scientists at the Environmental Protection Agency showed that triclosan decreases levels of testosterone and sperm production in male rats. Female rats exposed to triclosan showed signs of early puberty and altered levels of estrogen and thyroid hormones.

And 2010 study by University of Florida researchers found that triclosan interfered with the transfer of estrogen to growing fetuses in pregnant sheep. Estrogen is important in both male and female development because it promotes growth of organs like the lungs and liver.

Sansoni, the soap and detergent industry spokesman, says those animal studies can't be applied to humans and "make exaggerated claims about the damaging effects" of triclosan.

But safety concerns over triclosan don't just involve rats and other animals. Some experts argue that routine use of antibacterial chemicals like triclosan is contributing to a surge in drug-resistant germs, or superbugs, that are immune to antibiotics. Few studies have attempted to track antibiotic resistance tied to Triclosan in the real world. But laboratory studies have shown that antibiotic-resistant strains of E. coli and other bacteria can grow in cultures with high levels of triclosan.

As a result of the growing concerns, some leading medical societies, hospitals and companies have abandoned the chemical.

Kaiser Permanente pulled triclosan from its 37 hospitals across the country in 2010, switching to traditional soaps and alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Kathy Gerwig, Kaiser Permanente's vice president for workplace safety, said the hospital chain decided to phase out triclosan as part of its "precautionary approach" to safety issues.

"If there is credible evidence that a product we're using might have some disadvantages from a health or environmental standpoint, then it's our obligation to look for a safer alternative," Gerwig said.

Johnson & Johnson has pledged to remove triclosan from all of its adult products by the end of 2015. The company says none of its baby products currently contain the ingredient.

"We want people to have complete peace of mind when they use our products," Susan Nettesheim, vice president of product stewardship, said when the company made the announcement last summer.

purel hand sanitizer
It’s hard to imagine this country 100 years ago with little more than soap and water to protect people from germs. How did they survive amidst their filthy countrymen?  Well, as it turns out, we weren’t nearly as toxic then as we are today. We’ve entered into a new era of germs — superbugs that won’t die, and threats that weren’t nearly as present in past centuries as they are now.
Our rapid increase in population means more people with more germs in more places creating more risks for getting sick; it’s no wonder we’re all buying those little hand sanitizer bottles by the dozen. But that might all soon change.
Food & Water Watch has been busy lately. We recently reviewed their report on misleading or false claims on eco seafood labels, and we also posted their jaw-dropping map detailing the factory farms sprawl moving across our great nation — polluting air, water, and soil with millions of tons of animal waste run off (not to mention all the antibiotics being fed to livestock, the horrific conditions they suffer in and the government subsidization of these industries, making cheap, unhealthy and risky animal products prevalent, especially in our public schools). Now, Food & Water Watch and dozens of other environmental groups are petitioning the EPA to ban triclosan, the active ingredient in hand sanitizers. It is also found in children’s toys and household items that can become breeding grounds for germs. Trouble is, it can also lead to the development of resistant bacteria.
Triclosan is a known toxin, disrupting the endocrine system and could have negative effects on the reproductive system and links to cancer. It’s harmful to the environment, and because we’ve never used as much of the stuff as we have in the last 5 years, the long-term risks are unknown.
Germs are not going away any time soon; in fact, they may be getting stronger with antibiotic resistant bacteria on the rise.  Whether or not triclosan is banned, you can protect yourself naturally. Essential oils have long been safely used as antibacterial and antimicrobials. Lavender, clove, oregano, tea tree, eucalyptus and lemongrass are some options. One drop is often all you need. Blend with other oils, dilute and spray onto hands or surfaces. Frequent hand-washing is your best bet for preventing the spread of germs, and keep your hands away from your face when in public — germs enter through eyes, nose and mouth.

SAVING MONEY, something we all want to do!! heres tips on how to.

Helping you save money, My family started doing a few things differently 4 years back to save money.  As of now we are no millionaires but we are not tied to any bills either and have saved a lot.

#1- shop wisely- when you are shopping for groceries take the time to find the deals.  Its even better if you use coupons.  There has been several, several times I go to the store and get 100.00 dollars worth of groceries for about 5.00 dollars.  This wont always happen.  Start saving those coupons, and there is many sites that will give you a list of match ups and how much the product will be after the coupon.  You can also contact companies through email or call them and ask if they can send you coupons and they might even send a free product coupon.

#2-  cook, don't eat out.  It is so much cheaper to cook than to eat out.  A lot of people say that they don't have time to cook. That's fine you can do what I do. I make meals ahead of time and freeze them.  When I want to cook it I will lay out the night before and in morning just dump it in the crock pot and forget about it. When you get home supper is ready.  Its the greatest thing ever!  here is a site with a few recipes on doing this. All you need to do really is search make ahead crockpot meals.
http://thedailysouth.southernliving.com/2012/09/17/freezer-cooking-make-ahead-slow-cooker-dinners/

#3- cut back on buying things that are not needed.  I only buy a lot a few times a year.  After Christmas is my favorite.  I will wait till stores go 90% off and then go buy Christmas presents for next year.  This year I got 800 dollars worth of stuff for 60 dollars.  This includes crockpots, décor, toys, electronics.  This is really the only time I will go to store and buy stuff that I don't need right then.

#4-  Recycle your clothes and your kids. Go to a resell store or thrift store and see if they will buy clothing. Such as Once Upon A child.  I do this a few times a year, I sell the older clothes so that I can get my kids new clothes for the new season.  This works great and saves a lot of money.

#5 repurpose things- If you are needing something but really don't want to spend money on it you can make some great stuff with things that you throw away.  Such as coffee cans for storage, formula, or any kind of cans.  Wooden pallets are a big one, you can just about make anything with these.

Bacteria Can build immunity to antibiotics!!!! This = bad News!!!

Did you know that the bacteria such as those in the flu, strep and so on are building immunity to the antibiotics.  The bacteria is always changing, that's why we have new bacteria develop and it just that one of them changed in some way.  Usually it keeps getting stronger and stronger.  This will not be good for us in the future because when there comes a new superbug or what ever it may be one of those that is immune to the antibiotics and we will not have much to help us thru our sickness.

HERES AN ARTICLE I FOUND ON POPULAR SICENCE
You need to read.

NEW STOMACH SUPER BUG!!!! PROTECT YOURSELF

New stomach superbug

Doctors warn of new stomach 'superbug' hitting U.S.
This is the article I found on ABC News website

In an average year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 21 million Americans get the norovirus, with classic stomach flu symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.

Eight hundred die. Symptoms come on very suddenly, within hours after a person has been exposed to it.

Because no one has immunity to this new strain, more Americans - perhaps 50 percent more, the CDC says - could become violently ill.

While the flu is spread mostly in the air by sneezes and coughs and a person needs to breathe in as many as 1,000 virus particles to get sick, the norovirus is far more contagious. Just 18 norovirus particles can make a person sick.

The flu can last two to four hours on hard surfaces outside your body, but the norovirus can survive and remain infectious for weeks.

To keep the norovirus away, medical experts suggest cleaning the house with bleach, not just regular detergents. They also say that while hand sanitizers kill the flu virus, they are not effective at getting rid of the norovirus.

Medical experts suggest washing your hands with soap and water repeatedly to keep the norovirus off them

TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WHAT TO DO IF KIDNAPPED!

As a parent we worry about our children being Kidnapped or Abducted. This is very scary to think about, It really hit me the other day when I took my 3 kids all under 5 to Belk's.  Everything was fine and one of the sales persons come to me asking if they could help me find something and within those few minutes two of my children had left my side.  I was shouting their names and looking everywhere I could hear them but couldn't see them.  I was in panic mode and was so scared, someone in the store seen them and brought them back to me.  So long story short my kids are going to start getting lessons and the truth told to them about how mean some people are and how to protect their selves.   With that being said I did some research on what we should teach our children to do if the are kidnapped or trying to be.

In the United States 800,000 children are reported missing each year.  That is enough said right their for me to be prepared and have my children prepared.

    TIPS

IF YOUR CHILD IS IN PUBLIC WHEN TAKEN; THEY NEED TO MAKE AS MUCH NOSIE AS POSSIBLE.  BITITNG, SCREAMING, KICKING, ANYTHING THEY CAN DO TO ATTRACT ATTENTION TO THEM.

IF THEY HAVE EVEN A CHANCE TO RUN THEY NEED TO RUN, TELL THEM TO GO TO ANY PUBLIC PLACE WHERE THERE IS OTHER PEOPLE.

CHILD NEEDS TO KNOW HOW TO CALL 911, ADRESS, PARENTS NAMES, AND OTHER INMPORTANT INFORMATION INCASE THEY CAN CALL.
